Anti War Protests On The Rise

It was a scene reminiscent of the late 60's and early 70's. A large anti war demonstration occurred Saturday in New York City. The protest movement against the Vietnam War started slowly but grew into a huge movement that brought down a President and eventually led to the withdrawal of U.S. forces from South East Asia.
The protestors were joined by notable figures speaking out against the war in Iraq and also against military action in Iran. Among this group was Cindy Sheehan, Susan Sarandon, Reverend Al Sharpton and the Reverend Jesse Jackson.
The crowd was estimated by organizers of the protest to be around 300,000. There were no reports of arrests.

Why Do You Think He Is Called "Rush?"

Rush Limbaugh, right wing radio hypocrite, has reached a plea
bargain agreement with the prosecutors in Palm Beach County,
Florida, to resolve his long running drug abuse case. He was accused of "doctor shopping," that is deceiving multiple doctors to receive overlapping prescriptions. He was said to have received about 2,000 painkillers. The complaint stated that he had been prescribed by four doctors in six months.Limbaugh has agreed to pay $30,000 in court costs and to enter a diversionary treatment program. If he successfully completes the program and a probation period the charges will be dropped. A pretty easy deal on the far right whacko who constantly calls for harsh treatment of drug abusers.

Snow Job

Looks like a "Snow job" is in the works at the White House. News reports indicate that FOX TV commentator Tony Snow will be the new adminstration spokesman. Snow is expected to be named on Wednesday, replacing Scott McClellan.
Snow, a Fox News commentator has prior White House experience as a speech writer for the first President Bush.
Snow has said a lot of bad things about his new boss while pursuing his TV job. A few of these include: "His (Bush's) wavering conservatism has become an active concern among Republicans, who wish he would stop cowering under the bed and start fighting back against the likes of Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Joe Wilson," "The newly passive George Bush has become something of an embarrassment."
He said Bush had "lost control of the federal budget and cannot resist the temptation to stop raiding the public fisc. (treasury)"
Other Snow jobs on Bush: ‘An Embarrassment,’ ‘Impotent,’ ‘Doesn’t Seem To
Mean What He Says’
Bush has “lost control of the federal budget and cannot resist the temptation to stop raiding the public fisc. “George W. Bush and his colleagues have become not merely the custodians of the largest government in the history of humankind, but also exponents of its vigorous expansion.” “President Bush distilled the essence of his presidency in this year’s State of the Union Address: brilliant foreign policy and listless domestic policy.” “George Bush has become something of an embarrassment.”
Bush “has a habit of singing from the Political Correctness hymnal.” “No president has looked this impotent this long when it comes to defending presidential powers and prerogatives.” Bush “has given the impression that [he] is more eager to please than lead, and that political opponents can get their way if they simply dig in their heels and behave like petulant trust-fund brats, demanding money and favor, now!” “When it comes to federal spending, George W. Bush is the boy who can’t say no. In each of his three years at the helm, the president has warned Congress to restrain its spending appetites, but so far nobody has pushed away from the table mainly because the president doesn’t seem to mean what he says.” “The president doesn’t seem to give a rip about spending restraint.” “Bush, for all his personal appeal, ultimately bolstered his detractors’claims that he didn’t have the drive and work ethic to succeed.”
“Little in the character of demeanor of Al Gore or George Bush makes us say to ourselves: Now, this man is truly special." “George W. Bush, meanwhile, talks of a pillowy America, full of niceness and goodwill. Bush has inherited his mother’s attractive feistiness, but he also got his father’s syntax. At one point last week, he stunned a friendly audience by barking out absurd and inappropriate words, like a soul tortured with Tourette’s.” “He recently tried to dazzle reporters by discussing the vagaries of Congressional Budget Office economic forecasts, but his recitation of numbers proved so bewildering that not even his aides could produce a comrehensible translation. The English Language has become a minefield for the man, whose malaprops make him the political heir not of Ronald Reagan, but Norm Crosby.” “On the policy side, he has become a classical dime-store Democrat. He gladly will shovel money into programs that enjoy undeserved prestige, such as Head Start. He seems to consider it mean-spirited to shut down programs that rip-off taxpayers and mislead supposed beneficiaries.”

Bush: "I Decide What's Best!"

At a testy press conference the other day President Bush became a bit flustered at the questions peppering him about Iraq and Donald Rumsfield in particular. When asked about Rumsfield's job security in the wake of the many former generals that have spoken against the Defense Secretary Bush said "I decide what's best!" ...A scary thought!

Lee Raymond's Retirement Package

How do you feel about shelling out big bucks for gas at the pump?Well, this should make you feel better, a retiring major oil company executive feels your pain!"We're all in this together, everywhere in the world," said Lee Raymond while testiying to Congress last November.Raymond is retiring as chairman of Exxon Mobil. Raymond's future retirement wont be too tough. He will get one of the most generous retirement packages in history, "worth nearly $400 million, including pension, stock options and other perks, such as a $1 million consulting deal, two years of home security, personal security, a car and driver, and use of a corporate jet for professional purposes." Think about that when you pay $3.00 a gallon in the near future.

Sicko False Religious Fanatics Push Limits Of Free Speech

Posted by Picasa So called reverend Fred Phelps and his inbred family of religious fanatics are pushing the limits of free speech with their hateful and mis-guided protests at funerals of American service members killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is hard to imagine a more hateful, false practice in the name of some so-called religion. Phelps and his crazies say these soldiers are being killed because of God's retribution against America because of homosexuality they say is wrongfully allowed to exist. What looney bin did these folks come from? Twisted logic from twisted lunatics!

Justice Scalia Continues To Display Contempt For Justice

Scalia Again Displays Supreme
Arrogance, Utter Contempt
For Ethics, Scholarship

Justice Antonin Scalia told off critics who say he should have recused himself from a case involving Vice President Dick Cheney's energy task force. In his usual blunt style Scalia said they should ''get a life.''
"For Pete's sake, if you can't trust your Supreme Court justice more than that, get a life," Scalia said.
Speaking to an audience at the University of Connecticut's law school on Wednesday, said recusing himself from the 2004 case, which looked into recommendations from an energy task force led by the Vice President would have encouraged editorialists and other commentators in saying he has been too close to the vice president.
"I think the proudest thing I have done on the bench is not allowed myself to be chased off that case," Scalia said.
The Supreme Court was looking into the case brought forth because of Cheney's request to squash details of closed-door White House strategy sessions that produced the administration's energy policy.
The administration fought a lawsuit brought by watchdog and environmental groups that contended that industry executives, including former Enron chairman Ken Lay, helped shape that policy. The Supreme Court upheld the administration position on a 7-2 vote.
Scalia refused to recuse himself from the case in spite of arguments by critics who claimed he was biased toward the administration’s position on energy.
It was noted he had been on a hunting vacation with Cheney while the case was before the court. Lucky he didn’t get shot!

Bush Policy, Statements On Iran Nukes Clear As Mud

Bush Says Plans To Nuke Iran "Wild Speculation!"

President Bush, speaking Monday at Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, said that the military option is on the table as the administration decides what to do about Iran and it's growing "nukular" threat.
The New Yorker magazine was one of several that said the adminsitration was considering using nuclear weapons against the heavily bunkered Iranian underground nuclear sites.
Responding to these reports Bush said, "What you're reading is just wild speculation."
British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said "The reason why we're opposed to military action is because it's an infinitely worse option and there's no justification for it."
The White House said the Pentagon is conducting "normal military contingency planning" concerning any possible military action against Iran.
British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw the idea of a nuclear strike was "completely nuts." Straw said Britain would not launch a pre-emptive strike on Iran.

President Bush Said To OK Release Of Classified Information

According to court documents released yesterday I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby testified to the grand jury investigating the leak that disclosed the identity of C.I.A. agent Valerie Plame that Vice President Cheney provided the information and that the disclosure was authorized by President Bush. But the disclosure in documents filed Wednesday means that the president and the vice president put Libby in posession of classified information about prewar intelligence on Iraq so he could then pass it on to reporters.

John McCain Kissin' Up To Jerry Fallwell

Senator John McCain, (R. Arizona,) used to have a reputation as a
maverick, a man who spoke his mind and staked out his own position, even if it was not in agreement with policies put forth by the White House or the Republican Congressional leadership. Apparently there has been a change of heart for the ambitious Senator. Senator McCain once, correctly, described Jerry Falwell as one of the "agents of intolerance" on the religious right. Now it seems McCain has had a change of heart. He is pandering to the far right as his presidential campaign draws near. McCain now thinks he needs this support to gain the nomination. He may have some problems, in spite of his wooing of Falwell and others . "Everybody understands, he hates the Christian right. That's a real problem," says Paul Weyrich, head of the Free Congress Foundation. When asked if McCain has been successful in reaching out to religious conservatives Lou Sheldon, founder of the Traditional Values Coalition, replied "I don't see bridges, I see road blocks."

Alas Tom, We Knew Ye Too Well!

Facing indictments and reality, Tom DeLay has resigned from his Texas Congressional district. He said he didn't want to put his constituents through a negative campaign. How thoughtful!
DeLay, who served 11 terms, has given "sleaze" an entirely new perspective during his tenure in the Congress and his efforts in Texas to change Congressional boundaries resulted in a system that will undoubdtedly be challenged in court soon.

Worse Than Nixon...

John Dean Compares G.W. Bush To His Old Boss

Posted by PicasaFormer Nixon White House counselor John Dean had a warning for the Senate Judidciary Committee in his recent testimony to that panel. "Had the Senate or House, or both, censured or somehow warned Richard Nixon, the tragedy of Watergate might have been prevented."
Dean told the Senators that President Bush's domestic spying was worse than the actions that led to Nixon's resignation amid the Watergate scandal.
"Hopefully the Senate will not sit by while even more serious abuses unfold before it."
Referring to the resolution proposed by Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Russell Feingold to censure President Bush, Dean said the president "...Needs to be told he cannot simply ignore a law with no consequences."
Chairman Arlen Specter, R-Pa., said Feingold's resolution has no merit, "but it provides a forum for the discussion of issues which really ought to be considered in greater depth than they have been."
