Elizabeth Edwards; Attack Dog For John

Remembering Rummy; Poetry Of Donald Rumsfield

The following is from Slate Magazine, a not so fond farewell to Rummy.

The Unknown
As we know,
There are known knowns.
There are things we know we know.
We also know
There are known unknowns.
That is to say
We know there are some things
We do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns,
The ones we don't know
We don't know.
—Feb. 12, 2002, Department of Defense news briefing

Glass Box
You know, it's the old glass box at the—
At the gas station,
Where you're using those little things
Trying to pick up the prize,
And you can't find it.
It's—
And it's all these arms are going down in there,
And so you keep dropping it
And picking it up again and moving it,
But—
Some of you are probably too young to remember those—
Those glass boxes,
But—
But they used to have them
At all the gas stations
When I was a kid.
—Dec. 6, 2001, Department of Defense news briefing

A Confession
Once in a while,
I'm standing here, doing something.
And I think,
"What in the world am I doing here?"
It's a big surprise.
—May 16, 2001, interview with the New York Times

Happenings
You're going to be told lots of things.
You get told things every day that don't happen.
It doesn't seem to bother people, they don't—
It's printed in the press.
The world thinks all these things happen.
They never happened.
Everyone's so eager to get the story
Before in fact the story's there
That the world is constantly being fed
Things that haven't happened.
All I can tell you is,
It hasn't happened.
It's going to happen.
—Feb. 28, 2003, Department of Defense briefing

The Digital Revolution
Oh my goodness gracious,
What you can buy off the Internet
In terms of overhead photography!
A trained ape can know an awful lot
Of what is going on in this world,
Just by punching on his mouse
For a relatively modest cost!
—June 9, 2001, following European trip

The Situation
Things will not be necessarily continuous.
The fact that they are something other than perfectly continuous
Ought not to be characterized as a pause.
There will be some things that people will see.
There will be some things that people won't see.
And life goes on.
—Oct. 12, 2001, Department of Defense news briefing

Clarity
I think what you'll find,
I think what you'll find is,
Whatever it is we do substantively,
There will be near-perfect clarity
As to what it is.
And it will be known,
And it will be known to the Congress,
And it will be known to you,
Probably before we decide it,
But it will be known.
—Feb. 28, 2003, Department of Defense briefing

White Elephant

Our local police department recently opened a new shooting range at a great expenditure of taxpayer dollars, The facility is the pits! ..Literally!
Just another of recent disclosures of scandal, incompetence and worse in our city government.

City Staff Meeting!

This is a good representation of the effectiveness of our local city government. The hapless City Manager, Skip Noe and our mayor Henry Garrett are depicted here working with the city staff.

He Followed Me Home!

Cone Of Uncertainty

Cone Of Uncertainty

I am in the cone of uncertainty,
There is a major hurricane lurking o’er the sea.
Computer models explain where it might go
But till then we just don’t know.

It is a frightening thing
Scary as can be
When you’re in the cone
Of uncertainty!

Today it’s Jamaica, soon the Yucatan
If it gets in the Gulf we don’t know where it’ll land
From Veracruz to New Orleans they’re all on alert
It will land somewhere and you know it will hurt.

It is a frightening thing
Scary as can be
When you’re in the cone
Of uncertainty!

I’ll gas up my car and buy food in some cans
Tape up my windows and make my plans
I’ll have to decide just where I’ll go
If the hurricane hits and the wind starts to blow!

It is a frightening thing
Scary as can be
When you’re in the cone
Of uncertainty!

I Am Leaving To Spend More Time With My Family...

Have you ever noticed when an official resigns in disgrace or comprimising situations they always say "I am leaving to spend more time with my family."
I imagine that may be true sometimes but you have to wonder...

Karl Rove Goes...Bush Needs A Brain!

Oops! Apparently I need a brain! A friend pointed out it was the Scarecrow that needed the brain! The Tinman needed a heart! Oh well, I think you could make the case that the Prez could use some help in both departments!

Turkey In The Straw!!

Mitt Romney won the Iowa straw poll and now has at least a temporary leg up on his GOP rivals.
This event is a bit odd. It costs money to attend and vote. Candidates make it a practice to actually pay the fee for their supporters!
It was also recently made known his estate is worth about $250 million. Kinda hard for him or any of the GOP candidates to make fun of, say, John Edwards for being wealthy.

Still An Opitmist! Even In 2007!

This is a post I placed here last year. I still feel the same way! I don't care what Voltaire, who I do admire, said, I remain an opimist!!

Writing in Candide, which he denied writing, the eighteenth century French philosopher, author Voltaire wrote " If this is the best of all possible worlds, what are the others like?"
Optimism was, he wrote "The passion for maintaining that all is right when all goes wrong with us."
"Ultimately optimism is as self protecting a hypothesis about the world as one could imagine, since absolutely nothing can refute it."
Hmmm...I remain an optimist these days in spite of the state of affairs at large in our world. I would quote Mahatma Gandhi, "You must become the change you want to see in the world."

Rudy; Another Reckless GOP Candidate

Rudy Giuliani has been making some harsh statements lately, attacking fellow Republicans and some of the Dems as well.
His entire candidacy is based on his image from the 9/11 attack.
He makes the race interesting. Will he remain as GOP front runner? If nominated will he get support from the far right conservatives who place their stands on social issues above all else? Stay tuned political junkies!

Tom Tancredo, First Class Nut Job!

Congressman Tom Tancredo,(R Colorado,)running for the GOP Presidential nomination, is even more Looney Tunes than Duncan Hunter and that is saying something!
Tancredo recently said if another terror attack should occur on our soil and he was the president he would order retaliatory nuclear stikes on Mecca and Medina!
Tancredo has a long list of crazy, racist and inflammatory statements on his record.
No wonder the rest of the world now fears us.

We Have Met The Enemy And He Is Us!

According to an article by Glenn Kessler, in yesterday’s, August 6, 2007, Washington Post, the Pentagon and the U.S. government is not able to account for nearly 200,000 weapons, including AK-47’s and pistols, that were given to the Iraqi police and armed forces.
It is highly likely that these weapons are now in the hands of the insurgents.
The report is from the Government Accountability Office and maintains that U.S. officials have lost track of 30 percent of the weapons the United States distributed to Iraqi forces from 2004 through early this year as part of an effort to train and equip the troops.
So far it has cost U.S. taxpayers $19.2 billion to develop Iraqi security forces.
