Condi...I'm Sorry, So Sorry

Condi has been singing several choruses of "I'm Sorry..." lately as it has been disclosed that unauthorized contractors having been peeking through the confidential passport files of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Even John McCain's files were rifiled.
The private contractors,Stanley Inc.,based in Arlington, Va., and The Analysis Corp., or TAC, of McLean, Va., said Friday that their employees' actions were unauthorized and not consistent with company policies.
Just this week, Stanley won a five-year, $570 million government contract extension to support passport services. This is just another example of Bush croneyism and incompetence.
These actions were explained away as harmless "imprudent curiousity." Right!
Should it be a surprise that a G.W. Bush State Department plays fast and loose with ethics and political dirty tricks? That is undoubtedly what's behind these incidents.
It should be recalled that the same thing happened in the George H.W. Bush presidency when Bill Clinton's passport files were surrepticiously viewed. Must be a Bush family tradition.

Paying Off The Sunni Militias In Iraq

G.W. Bush and John McCain have spread a lot of bull shit about fighting Al Qaeda in Iraq. McCain recently said that the Iranians were helping Al Qaeda and that they were slipping across the border into Iran.
Of course that was totally wrong, Iran is not helping Al Qaeda nor does it provide them sanctuary.
Iran does cause trouble but it is Shia groups that get their help. This constant mention of Al Qaeda is more of the scare tactics and confusion the Bush administration has used since before this war began.
The Bush administration loudly trumpets the so-called success of "the surge." This is more smoke and mirrors. The main reason for reduced violence in Irag is the truce placed in force by Shia leader Muqtada Al Sadr.
Another reason for decreased violence is the fact that the United States has been paying off Sunni militia leaders which used to target Americans.
It is disgraceful that even now, after 5 years of war, 4,000 American dead, thousands wounded, over a million Iraqis dead, that we are still being lied to by this President and his minions.
It also demonstrates that John McCain is unfit for the office of President. He is confused, unsure of the facts and he has a temper which flares out of control and should be of grave concern to voters.
A President needs to be calm and steady and sure of his facts. A President should be one who is open and honest and can be trusted to speak truth to the people.

Obama's Speech

For the past several days right wing palaverers like Sean Hannity and other extreme right wing dingbats have been frothing at the mouth and gleefully showing the now infamous viral video of Reverend Jeremiah Wright and his sermon. This has given them what they see as a golden opportunity to throw a roadblock in the way of the candidacy of Barack Obama.
Obama responded yesterday in Philadelphia with a masterful address, a speech that ranks high amongst the best speeches of our history.
He demonstrated, with masterful eloquence, that it is Obama’s words, not those of his former pastor’s, that should matter to us.
“On one end of the spectrum, we've heard the implication that my candidacy is somehow an exercise in affirmative action; that it's based solely on the desire of wide-eyed liberals to purchase racial reconciliation on the cheap. On the other end, we've heard my former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, use incendiary language to express views that have the potential not only to widen the racial divide, but views that denigrate both the greatness and the goodness of our nation, and that rightly offend white and black alike,” said Obama.
He also said “I have already condemned, in unequivocal terms, the statements of Reverend Wright that have caused such controversy and, in some cases, pain. Did I strongly disagree with many of his political views? Absolutely — just as I'm sure many of you have heard remarks from your pastors, priests, or rabbis with which you strongly disagreed.”
The right wing fear mongering hacks will foam at the mouth and spread fear and hate to further their own agendas no matter who is the Democratic nominee and they will be a constant source of divisiveness and agitation for any foreseeable future. It is up to public opinion to diminish their influence by ignoring such despicable “talk show” personalities and commentators.

Geraldine Ferraro; "Clueless!!"

Geraldine Ferraro’s recent remarks about Barack Obama’s success and her subsequent remarks concerning the controversy she engendered prove the former Democratic Vice presidential nominee is absolutely clueless.
Ferraro made her now infamous comments in an interview last week with the Daily Breeze newspaper in Torrance, Calif. "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept," said Ferraro.
This is a statement much like those made in previous years by whites who claimed they were passed over for a job by blacks because of affirmative action. In other words, she is saying that Obama would not be in his present role as leading contender for the Democratic nomination if he was a white man.
That is at best faulty logic and in reality is a racist statement.
Ferraro, instead of retracting or clarifying her statement, has made matters worse with her subsequent remarks.
“Every time that campaign is upset about something, they call it racist,” she said. “I will not be discriminated against because I’m white. If they think they’re going to shut up Geraldine Ferraro with that kind of stuff, they don’t know me,” said Ferraro in an interview reported in the New York Times last Wednesday.
Obama and his campaign have not said that Ferraro was a racist. They have responded in strong, but in the circumstances, very reasonable terms.
Ferraro has, rightly, stepped down from her position on the Clinton campaign finance committee.
She made things even worse on NBC TV Wednesday night when she said this.
"If anybody is going to apologize, they should apologize to me for calling me a racist," she said.
Oh Puhleeze!
Ferraro should be ashamed but mainly she just needs to shut up!.

No "New" Politics...

This morning on This Week on ABC TV the prissy George Will said something I agreed with, a rarity!
The panel was discussing negative campaigning and suggesting Barack Obama needed to maintain his so-called "new" politics, that is, on a higher plane.
"There is no new politics. Politics haven't changed since they began in the Athenian democracy," said Will.
