Fran Townsend Blames Administration For Problems She Caused!
Fran Townsend, former head of Homeland Security under G.W. Bush, was on CNN the other day. She was, correctly, critical of the security breach which allowed under cover agents to smuggle bomb parts into federal buildings. What she didn't mention was that the security lapses were found with a contracting firm which was hired under her guidance during the Bush push to privatize many government functions.
A recently released GAO report said that security at 10 federal buildings was found to be extremely lax in four cities where undercover agents were able to smuggle bomb making components into the buildings.
Guards were found asleep on the job, poorly trained and in one case a baby was inadvertently allowed to pass through an X-ray machine.
This is another example of a major failure of the Bush push for privatisation of governmental functions. Remember Blackwater?
