Happy Winter's Solstice!

For those who profess no religious belief and still enjoy celebrating the holidays it might be interesting to note that this time of year in the northern hemisphere has been observed for thousands of years, well before the emergence of Christianity or Judaism, as the "death" of the dark winter months and the "birth" of the sun as the days began to lengthen once again.
Many cultures share a tradition of this type and it was an important event in the life of societies that relied on agrarian success as well as hunting and grazing.
This is another example of prehistoric and pagan beliefs that survive today in our supposedly "enlightened" culture.
