Winston Churchill 'Created' Modern Iraq

Winston Churchill was brilliant, irascible and not given to give in on a fight, much like the English Bulldog which he so closely resembled.
Churchill, with his Powerful oratorical and writing skills led the Allied victory in World War II.
Churchill loomed large in the 20th century and left his imprint on much of the history of that period.
Many may not know that in a very real way Churchill “created” modern Iraq.
Following World War One the Ottoman Empire had collapsed and Britain and France moved to gobble up parts of the empire.
Britain took over Palestine, Jordan and backed the monarchy in Arabia by imposing their “puppet” King Faisal.
Greedy for more oil in the Middle East British Colonial Minister Churchill drew up the borders for a new country, to be called ‘Iraq,’ and in 1921 placed a Hashemite leader, called King Feisel, on a freshly created throne in the region composed of opposing groups of Kurds, Shia and Sunni. This started a long and complicated chain of events and the rest, as they say, is history!
